Bruce Kurnow | A Winter's Harp

Bruce Kurnow is enjoying a long career in the music business. Since the age of three, when he began taking piano lessons, he has stayed on the path of music. As a teenager Bruce discovered a special connection with the harmonica and has remained dedicated to exploring the possibilities of the instrument. After majoring in music at the University of Minnesota he began studying the stringed harp and has worked steadily since then as a performing harpist and session player. As a recording artist, he has forty solo recordings to his credit (twenty-six of original compositions) and, as a studio musician, has contributed to over two hundred recordings of other artists, as well as numerous commercial and film projects. Bruce received four Minnesota Music Awards for his harmonica, stringed harp and keyboard work. In the 1970's, he toured three hundred cities per year and recorded with the country-rock group Mason Proffit.

Before moving to the San Francisco Bay Area, Bruce co-founded the popular Minneapolis group, Passage, which was inducted into the Minnesota Rock & Country Hall of Fame in 2007. Just Plain Folks nominated his recording of original harmonica compositions, Harmonicaland, for Best Solo Instrumental Album of 2004. Over the years Bruce has performed as a soloist, often featuring his unique simultaneous combination of stringed harp and harmonica. Although Bruce has performed often over the last twenty-five years with Dean Magraw and been involved in many of Dean's solo recordings, this is the first duo recording they have written and produced together.
