Coming in the wake of their first three highly critically acclaimed New Folk Records releases, Steve Lehto and John Wright have refined and expanded on their formula for reinterpreting traditional Irish, English, and American folk music.
The Thrashing Machine and Other Stories includes the use of a string quartet on the Lehto-penned "The Earl of Otherwhere," a first for Lehto and Wright, in addition to a revitalizing of the classic ballad "Nancy Spain," once recorded by Christy Moore, among others. Lehto and Wright's progressive rock influences can be heard on their reworking of "East Virginia Blues" (inspired by the Pete Seeger version) and on the title track as well. A piece from medieval Italy has also been featured to round out this latest effort by Lehto and Wright, a fitting fourth chapter in their folk rock exploration.
